The Reliability Challenge

Blade erosion from moisture in extraction steam at low-pressure stages reduces turbine efficiency and causes rotor imbalance. Governor instability during load swings from recovery boiler steam pressure variations causes extraction pressure oscillations that affect dryer section temperatures. Bearing wear from repeated thermal cycling during startup and shutdown increases vibration and risks seal damage. Turbine trips cause simultaneous loss of on-site generation and process steam, forcing paper machine shutdowns.
