The Reliability Challenge

Food plant gearboxes face lubricant contamination from washdown water ingress through shaft seals and breather vents. High-torque mixer and extruder gearboxes experience gear tooth surface fatigue from viscous product loading. Conveyor gearboxes on inclined and spiral systems endure sustained thrust loads. Gearboxes in sanitary zones must use food-grade lubricants (NSF H1 rated), which have different wear protection characteristics than industrial oils. Seal failures on gearboxes above open product zones create direct contamination risks that can trigger product recalls.
