The Reliability Challenge

Power plant generators face stator winding insulation aging from thermal cycling during unit cycling operations, partial discharge activity that erodes insulation at slot exits, and vibration-induced conductor looseness in stator slots. Rotor field winding ground faults from centrifugal stress and thermal cycling can force generator derating or unit trip. Hydrogen cooling system seal oil leaks reduce cooling effectiveness and create safety concerns. Collector ring and brush system issues cause excitation instability. Generator retaining ring stress corrosion cracking from moisture exposure is a catastrophic failure mode. NERC standards require documented generator maintenance and testing programs.

We perform stator winding partial discharge monitoring, insulation resistance testing, and capacitance-to-ground measurements to track insulation condition.
