The Reliability Challenge
Cooling Towers present diagnostic challenges because fill media degradation and drift eliminator damage can develop simultaneously, making it difficult to isolate individual fault contributions. Fan blade erosion may mask early indicators of basin corrosion. Operating variations in load and speed shift baseline signatures, requiring normalized trending rather than simple threshold alarms. Access constraints and process criticality limit measurement windows. Effective programs must integrate thermal performance testing with fan vibration monitoring and water chemistry analysis to build a complete condition picture.
Our Approach
We conduct failure mode analysis, establish reliability metrics, and build improvement programs specific to cooling towers operating characteristics. We establish baselines through thermal performance testing and fan vibration monitoring, then build trending programs that track degradation against CTI STD-201 and ASME PTC 23 criteria where applicable. Water chemistry analysis and structural integrity inspection provide additional data points for cross-correlation. Each assessment report includes severity rankings, recommended corrective actions, and maintenance timing guidance based on observed degradation rates and consequence of failure.
